Mission

The mission of The Farm is to develop disciples through the game of baseball.

PLAYERS FIRST

My philosophy is built on a player first mentality. As a coach I feel my job is to lay out a roadmap, provide guardrails on the road, and encourage the player to find the most creative and effective way to travel. Allowing a player to “run his own show” creates a unique form of buy-in and allows us to work together on his development. This type of freedom also allows the player to face confrontation, forces him to use trial and error, and lets him find the current capacity of his abilities.

COMPETITION OVER PARTICIPATION

I also believe that competing (internal) should take precedence over performing (external). Competing is a drive towards progress, while performing is a burden that pressures a player to impress others.

IDENTITY AND THE MEASURE OF A MAN

Our players today tend to fall into the trap of letting the game use them. This creates an identity crisis. Our identity lies in Jesus Christ alone, and believing that our identity lies in baseball can cause a sense of low self worth. This leads to anxiety and a future of living in a results based lifestyle. The second trap that a player can fall into is believing that his masculinity is based on his athleticism. This trap encourages our boys to believe that they can treat women a certain way, that they can get a pass in the classroom, or that they can live by their own rules. The truth is that the game of baseball will leave them one day, but the appetite created by these two traps will not. This is a dangerous recipe for men that will abuse their wives, men that will abandon their family, or men that will seek comfort in drugs or other dangerous pleasures.

Baseball is something you do, it’s not who you are.
